Dr. Aikins specializes in child, adolescent, and early adulthood related emotional and behavioral concerns. He works with clients to identify patterns of behavior that are maintaining suffering and encourages more skillful approaches to managing life’s stress. Dr. Aikins uses evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Functional Family Therapy to help individuals and families implement healthier communication, coping, and problem-solving strategies. Dr. Aikins’ expertise is in the following areas:

Dr. Aikins completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (Baltimore, MD).  His predoctoral internship training was at the Nebraska Internship Consortium in Professional Psychology (Boys Town; Omaha, NE).  During these training experiences, Dr. Aikins specialized in the treatment of severe child and adolescent behaviors. He completed specialized training in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Functional Family Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.

Dr. Aikins earned his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. During his time at LSU, Dr. Aikins conducted research in the areas of trauma, anxiety, depression and ADHD. His clinical work included behavioral parent training, parent-child conflict, depression, and anxiety. Prior to graduate training, Dr. Aikins earned his Bachelor’s in Psychology from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX.  Prior to joining Dallas CBT, Dr. Aikins worked at the Boys Town Center for Behavioral Health in Omaha, NE where he provided outpatient therapy and supervised doctoral interns completing their internship training.

Dr. Aikins is a Texas native and enjoys working out, making music, and training his 4-year-old Jack Russel Terrier, Jameson.
